The Boise Astronomical Society will host a star party in Stanley on June 15 and 16, 2018, to celebrate the establishment of the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve.  This is the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the United States.  Society telescopes will be available free to the public for supervised night sky and solar viewing.  Solar viewing is scheduled from noon until 4 pm on Friday and Saturday on the lawn in front of the Community Building on Highway 21 (Eva Falls Avenue).  Night sky viewing is scheduled from 10 pm until 1 am on Friday and Saturday at Pioneer Park in Stanley.

Boise Astronomical Society astronomers will provide free public presentations on interesting astromonical subjects during the celebration event.  On Friday, June 15 from 3 pm until 4 pm Matt Affenita will present a program called "The search for Planet Nine". On Saturday, June 16 from 3 pm until 4 pm Richard Beaver will present a program called "Water in Space". Both of these presentations will be in the Stanley Community Building.
